The friendship of Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner began in 1967 when he asked her to join his syndicated tv show; giving her a big break in her career. When it came time for Dolly to break even bigger, she wrote "I Will Always Love You" for her longtime friend.
This piece shows the working relationship of the two through the Nudie Suit Dolly is wearing. Nudie Kohn's fashions were worn by country and rock stars of that era and often contained imagery that was important (or specified) by the artist wearing them. This one contains an image of Wagoner (also wearing a Nudie Suit), a guitar containing references to songs the pair performed together, hearts, and money - as Wagoner ended up suing Parton.
